Art and Art Appreciation
Students in first through eighth grade have weekly art classes for the entire year. Grade one through four are taught by Mrs. Anna Dudek, while grades five through eight are taught by Mrs. Patricia Serrato. Students perform a variety of projects using a range of media, including painting, clay, charcoal and sketching, drawing and paper mache. The art classes attempt to bring out students creativity and skills by exposing them to a wide range of art media and techniques. Each grade level does a major project each quarter, which is done in a cross-curriculum fashion, integrated with other subject areas. For example, our fourth-graders recently created sculptures of Indians while they were studying native American culture in Social studies. Likewise, our eighth-grade students created a variety of Egyptian art using various media while they were studying Egyptian civilization in their social studies and English classes. The art curriculum is guided by state and archdiocesan curriculum standards.
