Library

St. Christopher School is blessed with a large, well-equipped library to enhance the education of our students. The library is located in a double-sized classroom and is stocked with a wide range of books and other media. The library is run by our school librarian, Mrs. Patricia Monahan.

The library is also the location of our second computer lab, which has over 20 workstations dedicated for student use in performing a variety of library research projects.

Students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade visit the library as a class on a weekly basis. The focus of these visits is to encourage and promote independent reading. One way this is done is via the Accelerated Reader program, which provides personalized reading practice and helps to assess and track each student’s reading ability. Library is integrated into other subject matters via written book reports, which are assigned on a regular basis for grades fourth through eighth.

To encourage the development of a life-long love for independent reading, a variety of incentive and recognition programs are in place to reward and recognize students for independent reading. For example, each week every student who passed an Accelerated Reader quiz that week is put into a drawing for free Jean’s Day pass.
