Religion and Religious Formation
The religious formation of our students and the imparting of our Catholic religious traditions are at the core of everything we do at St. Christopher School. It is what makes our school a Catholic one and is the reason for our existence. The religious life of our school centers around daily prayer at the beginning and end of each school day and on weekly all-school Mass every Wednesday morning, celebrated by our Pastor, Fr. Mark Walter or our Associate Pastor Fr. Laurent Mhagama. Each classroom has a small altar or shrine to serve as the focal point of prayer. Additionally, there are special Sunday family Masses through the school year for each of our school classes, where each class plans the Mass and then attends it with their families. Our religious curriculum was revamped for the 2010-11 school year and is based on the Archdiocese of Chicago Office of Catholic Education standards. Additionally, for the 2011-12 school year, we are incorporating religous instruction to prepare our students for the new revision of the Roman Missal (GIRM) which will be used by the Catholic church beginning in Advent, 2011. Our religious curriculum is taught in a cross-curriculum manner and is incorporated in all other subjects as appropriate. Also, during the 2011-12 school year, we are blessed to have an archdiocesan seminarian working with us to provide religious education to our school children. This seminarian will be working with grades K-8 on a variety of projects to aid in our students' religious formation. School discipline is based on standards of Christian conduct and morals and is implemented to reinforce the religious formation of our students.
