Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS)

Program Information

Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) is a school-wide plan designed to address the behavioral and discipline systems needed for successful learning and social development of all students. It is a proactive approach that helps create and/or maintain a safe and effective learning environment. With PBIS, staff members define the expected behaviors by teaching these behaviors to students as well as modeling and practicing them daily.

Students go through a series of behavior related lessons to further understand and internalize the school's expectations. Students also have posters in classrooms and common areas like hallways and bathrooms to remind them of the expected behaviors, known as "Cougar Expectations."

To encourage the desired positive behaviors, a reward system has been implemented and students are rewarded individually and as a class. These rewards are given on a daily, weekly, and quarterly basis.

Behavior Lessons

Below are examples of behaviors that may be modeled and practiced with students:

  • Use of the bathroom
  • Lunchroom behavior
  • Hallway behavior
  • Having work done on time

Parents, please help by reminding your children of the expected "Cougar Expectations" at home:

Cougar Expectations:
  • Respect Yourself
  • Respect Others
  • Respect Your School

Rewards

Students are rewarded for demonstrating the appropriate behaviors in school. Rewards used by St. Christopher School are in the form of Cougar Paw tickets. Students may put these tickets into our wekkly Cougar Pride Raffle to win various prizes each week.

Outcomes associate with PBIS
