Preschool and Your Child

St. Christopher School offers a preschool program for children  ages three and four years old.

Preschool is the beginning of your child's school life at St. Christopher School. When children enter preschool, they come, not necessarily to learn the three R's, but to build habits and share experiences which will help them learn the skills where and when they are ready to learn them. We provide them with a learning environment which will stimulate their interest

We must nurture early the interest which make life rich and abundant. It is our responsibility to implant an unquenchable love for learning in all children that will go with them throughout their entire school lives.

Preschool is not a "play" class (as adults term it), because children are always learning and developing. "Play" is really work for children. They pursue it as seriously as their parent approach to their adult duties.

Although children are not aware of it, practically everything we do with them in the course of preschool class has a sound developmental objective.

Preschool is an adventure for children. It is the beginning of an exciting new phase of their lives... the school years.

Preschool Curriculum

The goals of the preschool program are:

  • foster a love for school
  • provide for positive self-image
  • develop the ability to use and understand communication
  • increase visual and audio perception
  • accept social responsibility for self and others

Many of the skills taught in our preschool program are taught utilizing cross-categorical methodology. By using this technique, students are exposed to a skill through a variety of different activities in an assortment of settings. Students in this program may be exposed to the concept of grouping through participation in a game, through an interactive song, coloring, and oral expression. By using all of these opportunities for learning, students reinforcement is higher and students are better engaged.
